You don’t have to be a neat and tidy maniac to want to wear heavily scented clothes.

Resorting to the precious help of scented detergents and/or fabric softeners is very useful, but nothing is as infallible as formulas created for the sole purpose of perfuming both the clothes and the inside of the wardrobe.

While there are scents to suit all tastes, when it comes to clothes and wardrobes, none is as popular as the so-called ‘clean smell’.

Why do some clothes smell bad?
Have you ever noticed that your clothes smell bad even after washing? Many times our clothes can be impregnated with bad smells after taking them out of the washing machine and this is more common than you think.

There are several possible reasons why your ‘clean’ clothes smell bad. These include:

The washing machine is dirty
Clothes left in the washing machine.
Smelly wardrobe
Clothes that have been indoors too long.
Dirty washing machine
One possible cause of smelly clothes is a dirty washing machine. Like other household appliances, the washing machine also needs cleaning at least once a month: this includes the filter, the rubber and the drum.

To do this, you can set a short wash cycle, at 90 degrees Celsius, to clean it.

Dirty washing machine
When you put clothes in the washing machine, dirt can get trapped in two particular areas: the drum seal and the detergent dispenser.

Over time, the mixture of soap, water, dirt and residue creates an ideal breeding ground for unpleasant odours.

Unpleasant odours are formed when bacteria or moulds multiply in fabrics. The metabolic processes of microorganisms produce, among other things, sulphur-containing compounds, which we perceive by their bad smell.

If you want to prevent your clothes from smelling bad, you have to eliminate the germs’ livelihood. The whole process must be hygienic and moisture must be avoided at all costs.

Smelly wardrobe
We all know how important it is to ventilate our home on a daily basis, but our wardrobes should be no less important ⠀ ⠀ ⠀.

Normally, in fact, we should get into the habit of airing them out, opening their doors wide and letting the fresh air coming through the windows into our wardrobes, oxygenating our clothes.

Wardrobe
If we do not carry out this process regularly, we run the risk of them and everything we keep in them acquiring bad smells. Lack of ventilation is one of the causes of unpleasant smells in our wardrobes, although it is not the only cause.

Clothes that have been inside for too long.
It is normal to store summer clothes in winter and vice versa. But if this is not done correctly and the clothes remain inside for too long, they can acquire an unpleasant musty smell.

If this is a regular occurrence in your home, try keeping scented sachets with products such as jasmine, cinnamon, citrus, lavender, etc. next to your clothes.

Clothes scented with lemon juice
It may seem strange, but lemon juice is ideal to keep clothes from stinking, to soften them and, above all, to make them more fragrant.

Lemon juice
Simply put 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of baking soda in the detergent container and run the washing machine.

Thanks to the lemon, you can also make a natural-based fabric softener by dissolving the juice of 2 lemons in 1 litre of water and adding 100 ml of product to each wash.

Washing clothes in this way not only removes all the dirt, but also adds freshness and fragrance to our clothes.
