Natural remedies to keep rats away

Vinegar and ammonia

In a spray bottle, pour 1 cup of ammonia and another of vinegar then stir thoroughly. After having identified the areas of infestation of these pests, spray them with your mouse and rat repellent  without neglecting possible entry points.  However, be careful when handling the spray because ammonia remains a dangerous product capable of irritating the eyes and skin. Also,  be sure to keep it away from children and pets  and wear gloves and protective glasses before using it.

Essential oils

Essential oils are already known to repel insects and other parasites; the rats are not left out. Also, these natural repellents are all the more interesting to use as they will leave pleasant odors in the house. We think of  lemon, eucalyptus or peppermint essential oil,  the powerful smell of which irritates rats who will eventually flee your property. This method is not only very effective but also non-toxic.

Plants

Just like essential oils, plants are particularly effective natural repellents against rats in addition to making our interiors attractive. There are several  which provide an anti-parasitic function  such as: Daffodils, euphorbias, camphor and even grape hyacinths. You can plant them or get them in pots if you don’t have a garden.

On another note, don’t hesitate to get plants to purify the air and eliminate toxins.

Mouse trap

If the aforementioned methods generally prove effective, they can sometimes result in unconvincing results. If so, it might be time to use more radical techniques. For this,  it is possible to use a mouse and rat trap  which can eradicate them without too much cruelty if not using poison. For example, there is the glue trap whose bait above will attract rats and then trap them in the adhesive surface.

Put away the food

In addition, getting rid of rats also means preventing their appearance in our homes. So, by keeping the house clean, storing pet food properly  or getting rid of food lying around on the floor , you will have less chance of attracting rodents. You can also seal holes in the walls and cracks with caulking.

Fill the holes

You can also fill holes and other entry points  with steel wool  which is an interestingly effective material  in this case. By forming a barricade with it, it will be difficult for rats to gnaw through it unlike other materials.

Clean the house

Once you have made these arrangements, you will then  move on to cleaning the house with a mixture of dishwashing liquid, white vinegar and water.

All the remedies mentioned in this article are home tips that will be even more useful  with regular home maintenance . If you have a rat infestation, don’t wait any longer, contact a company for rat control.
